Collection: La Catrina Spring/Summer 2019

My inspirations were the actual La Catrina Calavera and ‘Coco’ the movie. La Catrina was created by Mexican Artist Jose Guadalupe Posada. His original image depicts a female skeleton dressed only in a hat. It was not until Mr. Posada started to dress Catrina in relatable European style clothing of the early twentieth century was, she dressed. To add, ‘Coco’ the movie was inspirational reminding me of our Family members who passed to a better life. It reminded me of my cultural traditions.

This collection was created from two inspirations. I was thinking of our present #MeToo Movement for women and men who have not spoken until recently. As fashion evolves around us all the time, I wanted to create some beautiful garments with lace and see through panels that included fabrics showing wonderful roses and flowers around the Catrina’s hat. The see-through panels were dedicated to the movement that we are living now becoming more out in the open, looking at our skin, and being proud of who we are matter what.
